Dior, the Fourth of July + Luxury Fashion Weekly Picks - The BK 22 Newsletter
Fashion news, some banter and other random goodies!
In the post today, we are hitting things from all sides.
Why?
Because BK22 is on vacation and will be back the week of July 8th.
Sweet!
Let's discuss topics I have been mulling over for the past week.
Dior, a brand under LVMH, is currently “under judicial administration for one year." Judicial admin was a ruling handed to Dior under the Italian court's judicial system, which was due to claims of Dior passively governing their subcontractors who ran their business through 'bad working conditions.'
Dior meets Shien type of world.
Crazy.
I wonder how this type of information will reflect in pricing, the luxury wearer and their sentiments toward their beloved lux brands.
Online, you hear so many people talk down on fast fashion and quality, only to learn that fashion is still fashion — and unethical in their many iterations, regardless of the price tag.
Something to ponder.
How do consumers who want to be eco-friendly when buying their clothing, commit to better working conditions in the fashion world?
I am not sure.
Maybe the fashion world needs a NATO-esque committee to oversee how garments are being made. Does one already exist?
Slave labor should be illegal, and livable wages and healthy working conditions should be first considered when making clothing.
Fast fashion could do archival drops of pieces they did not sell or could re-design pieces that they are still overstocked with.
They could also have staple pieces they do best as a brand and make their garments well, at affordable prices, offering livable wages to employees.
It could work.
Fast fashion churns out a lot of clothing that is hit or miss.
If fast fashion could give themselves a 10 -20 % fast fashion (trendy items to sell) approach for a fiscal calendar year — people would slow their desires for trend-based shopping.
Buzz would be up about how quickly a drop sold out.
Garments would be made better.
Fast fashion brands could offer exclusivity if they wanted to.
Luxury is exclusive, but fast fashion can also be made to be exclusive yet accessible (they don’t have to be mutually exclusive).
A brand's identity is in its brand ID. Many fast fashion brands are losing their identity instead of tapping into their potential.
Identity is getting lost in the sauce.
Brands could also share more by delving into the garment-making side of things by one, being ethical, and two, offering monthly sponsorships of their garment-making employees (to go to college).
To do that, you would have to get better at weeding out the greedy and corrupt people who run the world while also leaning into making working conditions better for the people who make their brand run like a well-oiled machine. I can dream.
But, hey — it could happen.
Speaking of fashion --
Here are the Lux Fashion picks of the week.
I think I have some fun ones.

This Balmain dress is amazing!
It is so fun and colorful and I love it.
Next up, are these dreamy and oversized Celine shades.
I love the shape of these so much.
A classic.
This Gucci leather handbag is very cute.
I am not ever really turned onto a red bag, but this is very fun.
This Missoni dress is kind of a big deal. It’s made of wool so it’s warm for the colder months.
But she’s a beaut.
Closing with these Giuseppe Zanotti heels.
I just feel like these shoes are collector worthy little staples.
Worn in, yet not too overdone.
Chic without trying.
Love.
This week on Bella Kate 22, I talked about daytime summer skincare.
You can read more about it here.

Not sure what to drink over the long holiday?
Try a frozen rosé (aka a frosé) — five minutes and you’ll feel chilled (from the heat).
Not into booze?
No problem. Here is a great seasonal mocktail. It sounds delicious.
Need 4th of July outfit inspo?
Head to Old Navy!
I have a great post that links the cutest gingham two-piece set.
See you the week after next.
